Why live&larn

Why live&learn

Choosing the right partner for organising your sabbatical, volunteer or internship placement in South Africa is surely not easy.

We have put together 10 reasons why you should choose live&learn:

Your 10 key benefits with live&learn

01 We are your South Africa Experts

We have been living and working in South Africa for over 20 years, have travelled the country extensively and are very familiar with the social and political developments in the country. We have specialised in arranging volunteer work, internships, sabbaticals, language courses and travel in South Africa. As true South Africa experts, we are the right people to help you have an unforgettable South African experience.

02 We offer personal and tailored advice

Already before your formal enrolment, we check together with you which projects best fit your qualifications, experience, wishes and expectations and advise you on how to make your dream of a stay abroad in South Africa come true. To ensure individual support, we limit the number of participants per year in our programmes.

03 We guarantee a placement in the project of your choice (if you meet the requirements of the organisation) and help you with contracts and other paper work you need from the volunteer or intern host.

04 We assist you with all travel preparations

We will help you with your visa application, advise you on the necessary insurances and vaccinations, cheap flights and local payments. We will also help you find suitable accommodation if it not supplied by project partner. If you are planning to take a language course or travel around South Africa during your stay, we will also help you with that. We will also provide you with an individual information package and a Cape Town guide with valuable insider tips for your time in South Africa.

05 We provide you with contacts to other live&learn participants

Before making your final decision to work in a project, you can contact former live&learn participants to exchange their experiences in your desired project. Even before you leave for South Africa, you have the opportunity to contact other live&learn participants and plan joint activities.

06 We will welcome you at the airport and help you adjust to life and work in South Africa.

Depending on the location of the placement, the live&learn team will meet you personally at the airport or organise the airport transfer for you. We will take you to your accommodation, familiarise you with your new surroundings and take care of your first shopping and cash withdrawal. The 1-day live&learn introductory programme with a comprehensive city tour also gives you an overview of Cape Town's tourist attractions and introduces you to current social and political issues in Cape Town.

07 We are your contact persons during your entire stay

With our office in Cape Town, we are available to answer any questions you may have throughout your time in South Africa. This allows us to react quickly to any problems. Regular social events, such as the Blue Bird Garage Food and Goods Market in Muizenberg, also give you the opportunity to share your experiences with other participants and clarify any questions you may have.

08 We provide comprehensive information on the costs and possibilities of financing

We will already provide you with detailed cost overviews during the first contact, which will transparently show you the costs for programme fees, flight, insurance, accommodation and meals in the various projects. We are also happy to advise you on financing options for your stay and support you in compiling your documents for scholarship applications or approaching sponsors.

09 We subject all our projects to quality control

Quality control is a very important for us. In this context, detailed examination of qualifications, expectations and needs of participants and project partners prove to be the key to success for high-quality voluntary service and internship placements. Long-term cooperation with our project partners, the provision of comprehensive information about our projects and regular evaluation of experiences are also central to our quality management system.

10 All our partner projects work for social and environmental justice in South Africa

The main focus of our project partners in the social sector is on the implementation of human rights, especially in the areas of education and health. Our projects in the field of nature and animal conservation are committed to the sustainable protection of South Africa's unique flora and fauna in a variety of ways. All wildlife conservation projects adhere to the ``Hands Off Policy`` to ensure that wildlife is kept in a species-appropriate manner, i.e. neither volunteers nor visitors to the projects are allowed to touch or stroke wildlife.
