This social work internship in a grassroots organisation in one of Cape Town’s oldest informal settlements will be the perfect placement for you.

This grassroots organisation was founded in 2008 in one of the oldest informal settlements in the south of Cape Town. It aims to contribute to the fight against unemployment, poverty, crime, alcohol and drug abuse as well as violence. The organisation offers diverse programs ranging from further education, career development and entrepreneursship  to social services such as child care as well as psychosocial support to victims of violence. The organisation runs a day care centre for 90 children a soup kitchen, a compuer training lab, income-generating projects such as a sewing workshop and an organic vegetable garden, as well as recreational programmes for young people such as football and dancing.

As part of your social work internship in Cape Town your tasks will be adjused to your qualifications as well as personal interests. You can get involved with following tasks:

  • Assist social workers in psycho social support work, including home visits (both indiidual and group counseling)
  • Assist teachers in creche
  • Assist computer traiing programs for youth and adults
  • Assist hands on gardening work in veggie garden as well as soup kitchen
  • Assist the sewing and crafting workshop (Design and Marketing tasks)
