Sport is a powerful tool to reach out to children and youth. Physical activity is vital to the holistic development of young people, fostering their physical, social and emotional health. The benefits of sport reach beyond the impact on physical well-being. Experience has shown educational benefits of sport as it helps children and youth to develop personal and social skills such as commitment, patience, resilience , fair-play and team work – all these skills are crucial to set and achieve personal goals in life and to be able to relate to others. Team sports are also more and more recognised as an important tool in sustainable grass-root peace building efforts as it helps to overcome social and cultral barriers.<\/p>\n

Become a sports volunteer and assist in one of our partner projects in and around Cape Town. Help children and youth to discocer and develop their talents and make a meaningful contribution to social development and poverty alleviation in South Africa.<\/strong><\/p>\n

By doing so you will also get a deep insight into social and political achievements and challenges of South Africa’s young democracy and you learn all about the potential of sport as a tool for social work and development.<\/p>\n

In this surf project in Cape Town sports volunteers assist the team with facilitating swim and surf sessions as well as other social and educational activities such as home work support, environmental education, music and drumming, computer literacy and other activities. As a sports volunteer you assist our partner school near Cape Town with the development of its sports programmes. The sport of surfing is used to strengthen resilience and coping mechanisms in children and youth who are exposed to violence in their families or neighbourhoods. You assist the project management team with various admin tasks, incl. the coordination of surf sessions, workshops for surf coaches, monitoring & evaluation, marketing & fundraising as well as research.\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t
